Small Extending Dining Table by Tom Robertson for Mcintosh, 1960s

Designed by Tom Robertson and handcrafted by A.H. McIntosh & Co. in Scotland during the 1960s, this exceptional dining table belongs to the celebrated Dunvegan collection , one of the most important and sought-after ranges produced by the renowned Scottish manufacturer during the golden age of Mid-Century Modern design . The table is distinguished by its elegant boat-shaped top , a refined silhouette that perfectly embodies the timeless sophistication and restrained beauty of Scandinavian-inspired British furniture design. Crafted with remarkable attention to detail, the table includes one extension leaf ingeniously stored beneath the tabletop in a single piece. By smoothly pulling apart the main top, the hidden extension is easily revealed and positioned, showcasing the intelligent craftsmanship and practical elegance for which McIntosh became internationally admired. What makes the Dunvegan collection especially important is the extraordinary organic joinery conceived by Tom Robertson. The seamless transition between the apron, legs, and tabletop demonstrates the sculptural artistry and cabinetmaking mastery that defined the finest Scottish furniture of the era. These beautifully flowing joints create a harmonious architectural form rarely found in modern production furniture. Today, original examples from the Dunvegan range are increasingly collectible, appreciated for their exceptional craftsmanship, timeless proportions, and enduring design legacy. This table stands as a remarkable representation of 1960s Scottish Mid-Century Modern furniture , combining elegance, functionality, and heritage in one beautifully crafted piece.
